Er entspringt unmittelbar aus dem rechten Herzventrikel und leitet das sauerstoffarme Blut weiter in Richtung Lunge . Unter dem Aortenbogen teilt er sich in die Lungenarterien (A. pulmonalis dextra und sinistra) auf.
